Sagging or droopy breasts don't have to be a fact of life.

As a woman ages, things like having children, gaining and losing weight, breastfeeding and loosening skin all can cause breasts to sag or hang. It’s hard to maintain the perky youthfulness of breasts, but it’s not impossible to turn back the hands of time and give a natural ‘breast lift’ to sagging breasts.

While the results will not be as effective as plastic surgery to lift breasts, these suggestions can help improve breast appearance and breast health.

Wear Supportive Brassieres

Foundation garments can help give a shapely appearance to your body, and wearing a good, firm, supportive and lifting bra can take years off the look of sagging breasts. If you are young, get into the habit of wearing a supportive bra daily, and if possible, a sports bra or sleeping bra at night when sleeping, to help keep your breasts lifted and firm and prevent drooping.

Proper Posture Improves Breast Appearance

Without surgery, you can perk up sagging breasts by simply having good posture and standing up straight. Standing straight with shoulders back automatically lifts and pushes out the breasts, giving them a perkier and more attractive appearance.

Push ups — While push ups aren't the easiest exercise to do, they will build the muscles behind the breast. When the breast muscle is strong and firm, the breasts will not droop as much.

Wing Lift – Stand straight, with weighted wrist wraps or dumbbells at a weight comfortable for you, hang your arms at your side. First, lift one arm straight out, then the other, to your side. Repeat this, alternating arms, and then finish with 5-10 reps of lifting both arms, like your trying to flap wings.

Bench pressing or light weight lifting that builds the muscle behind the breast helps firm up droopy breasts. This is especially true when slightly inclined, because the angle, when the weights are lifted, helps to target the right muscle in the chest.

Arm Resistance Exercises Perk up Breasts without Surgery

Place both arms in front of the body, palms together, and then bring the hands toward the body in a praying hands pose. Using your own muscle resistance, press your hands together as hard as you can, hold for a count or two, and then release. Repeat as necessary.

The same muscle this works can be worked to firm up sagging or drooping breasts by using exercises bands or a resistance bar.

Firm Breasts aren't Everything

Keep in mind that breasts are more for function than for figure, so know that perky breasts aren’t everything. The advice in this article will help you build the muscles behind the breast or to stand or dress properly to improve breast appearance, but nothing, not even surgery, will give you the same youthful breasts of your past.

Also consider this: even with plastic surgery, if you don't take care of your breasts, wear a good bra, and do these exercises, eventually, your breasts sag or drop, lose elasticity and change appearance.

Lastly, be sure to do monthly self-breast exams to check for any abnormalities or changes in your breast, including skin changes and bumps or lumps or rashes. Women over 35-40 years of age (younger with a history of breast cancer in the family) should have at minimum an annual breast and mammogram.

Perky, firm breasts won't matter so much if cancer takes its toll.
